Scenario and variant: operating instructions

In a scenario, all the data needed to launch a calculation in steady or unsteady flow are defined. Variant (of a scenario) will allow to overwrite some parameters of the scenario while keeping the data as a reference scenario for all non-modified settings.

Changing the settings modified by the variant is only possible in the variable management table.

The following table defines where items of the hydraulic mode can be set:

Item Scenario Variant
Calculation settings:
—> Steady or Unsteady flow X
—> Time X
—> Results writing X
—> General settings X
Nodes description:
—> Create, delete offtakes X
—> State of the offtake (Active / Inactive) X X
—> Modify the type of the downstream boundary condition X
—> Modify water elevation or discharge of downstream boundary condition X X
—> Create, delete, modify type of devices at offtakes X
—> Modify characteristics of devices (width, sill elevation, opening...) X X
Cross-structures description:
—> Create, delete, modify type of devices X
—> Modify characteristics of devices (width, sill elevation, opening...) X X
Roughness (Manning) and infiltrations X

As an unsteady flow calculation requires an initial condition, it is advisable to perform the various simulations (steady and one or more unsteady flow) in a scenario and create a variant by unsteady flow simulation you want to perform.
