Import geometry from Mascaret or HEC-RAS file

Mascaret Software (http://www.openmascaret.org) is a 1D free-flow hydraulic modelisation code based on Saint-Venant equations and developped by EDF R&D and the Centre d’Etudes Techniques Maritimes et Fluviales (CETMEF).

HEC-RAS software (http://www.hec.usace.army.mil/software/hec-ras/) is a one and two-dimensional hydraulic modelisation code developped by the US Army Corps of Engineers.

Importation of geometry file (.geo file for Mascaret, .g01, .g02... for HEC-RAS) is available in the Import sections and cross profiles in text format tool.

This tool allows to import cross sections of and into only one reach. In case of having several reaches in the file, only the first reach will be imported, into the current reach selected on the SIC² interface. To import the next reaches, you must delete the lines concerning the reach already imported in the file and then do a new importation, into another reach.

Macaret specifications

In Mascaret software, description of cross profiles contains a topology and a bathymetry parts which are converted in SIC² into minor and medium river bed. Also, separation between minor and medium bed in Mascaret depends on abscissa in the profil when it depends on minor-medium elevation overflow in SIC² (cf. Sections description). This separation in Mascaret can occur for two different elevation on the left and right banks, SIC² will store the mean value by default, but in case of several beds, a screen will be displayed allowing you to select the value you want among different options.

HEC-RAS specifications

HEC-RAS allows the use of multiple beds more complex than the concept of minor / medium bed developed in SIC and Mascaret. Einstein’s formula (Hans Albert, Albert’s eldest son) is then applied. It is not especially better than Debord’s formula (on the contrary according to various studies, see the work of Proust et al.). But it allows more than 2 beds. The import into SIC does not take into account the different beds detailed in HEC-RAS. But if more than one bed is present, the import will place a Minor - Medium overflow elevation on the lowest one of the various beds found. In addition, HEC-RAS defines its multiple beds by transverse abscissas, while SIC does so by an overflow elevation. Check this point during import, we do not guarantee an ideal recovery of this notion. SIC also recovers the geolocation of the sections, as well as the side dikes (levees) if present.
